Great song from Arcade Fire's Funeral period (best period imo). Been bothering myself
over the fact that there was no tab for this, so I went ahead and gave it a shot.
Standard tuning, no capo
In this song, both Win and Rich are on guitars. I marked where only Rich is playing.
Intro:
Let all these chords ring except for the regular C. Just do some down strokes on it.
(Listen to the song, you'll get it)
Verse:
For the first to verses let the chords ring as well, except for the C.
In the background the violin plays a high pitch C and sliding ut to Db at the end of
each line. (Again listen in and you'll here it)
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
Burning bridges, breaking hearts
ch]Ab[/ch
Everything you taught us to do
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
We're burning bridges, and breaking hearts
ch]C[/ch
No home to come home to
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
We're burning bridges, and breaking hearts
ch]Ab[/ch
I won't look you in the eye
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
And burning bridges, breaking hearts
ch]C[/ch
Caught you in a friendship lie
(This verse is only played by Rich. Let these chords ring)
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
Took a visit, to your old house
ch]Ab[/ch
The windows were all boarded up
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
Try to hold these, memories
ch]C[/ch
The ocean in a paper cup
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
There's no future in this town
ch]Ab[/ch
They barricade the buildings there
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
To the lion, you've been cast
ch]C[/ch
Only bones are gonna last
Chorus (Or some such):
Both guitars play this. The whole thing is tremolo picked. For the most accurate sound,
make sure to slide between the notes:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|--16--------9--8---11-5----7--5----16------9-8---15---11-12-13-------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
It ends on Ab and then goes back into the verse chords. Like so (Again, this verse is
only played by Rich, chords ring):
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
There's a city, underground
ch]Ab[/ch
There's a city made of glass
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
There's a city, underground
ch]C[/ch
Hurry cause it's breaking fast
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
We're burning bridges, breaking hearts
ch]Ab[/ch
Everything you taught us to do
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
We're burning bridges, and breaking hearts
ch]C[/ch
No home to come home to
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch
We're burning bridges, breaking hearts
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch
We're burning bridges, and breaking hearts
ch]Ab[/ch] [ch]Fm[/ch] [ch]Db[/ch
We're burning bridges, breaking hearts
ch]C[/ch
Breaking hearts
Here the song goes into a new chorus like thing, where both guitars play the following
in tremolo picking:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|--19---9-8--15--11---6--5--10-9--------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
That repeats while Win sings first verse over it.
Song ends on Abm
