Harrison began recording "Somewhere in England" in March 1980 and continued
sporadically, finally delivering the album to Warner Bros. Records, the
distributor of his Dark Horse record label, in late September that year.
However, the executives at Warner Bros. rejected the album, feeling it
was "too laid back" and not sufficiently commercial.
The original (rejected) version has its own charms, featuring some different tracks and
generally different mixes and edits compared to the released version.

It's the story of a very unfortunate colored man
Who got arrested down in old Hong Kong.
He got twenty years privilege taken away from him
When he kicked old Buddha's gong

And now he's popping the piano just to raise the price
Of a ticket to the land of the free
Well, he says his home's in Frisco where they send the rice
But it's really in Tennessee, that's why he said: (lick)

I need someone to love me
I need somebody to carry me home to San Francisco
 And bury my body there

I need someone to lend me
A fifty dollar bill and then
I'll leave Hong Kong behind me
 For happiness once again
 Won't somebody believe
I've a yen to see that bay again
Every time I try to leave
Sweet opium won't let me fly away

I need someone to love me
I need somebody to carry me home to San Francisco
 And bury my body there

 3. Flying Hour – George Harrison
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Written by: George Harrison/Mick Ralphs
 - 1978 outtake from the “George Harrison” sessions
 - From the rejected version of the album “Somewhere in England” (1981)
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vweHkckl_0w (for some reason, the
available recording of the outtake is sped up which makes it slightly
 faster and higher in pitch)
 - Later re-mixed and (in a slightly longer edit) released on the CD
that came with the book "Songs by George Harrison 2" (1988):
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nrHmiQJA0M (this official recording is
in the proper key of E and has the correct tempo)

 War mongers terrorize us all,
Our leaders heed us to their call.
 Stone-wallin, voices calling,
 [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]A7[/ch] | [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]A7[/ch] |
Drowning in the tears of the world.
 Big business calling ev'ry tune,
Polluting here and to the moon.
 All nations, conservations,
 [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]A7[/ch] | [ch]Dm[/ch] |
Drowning in the tears of the world.

 But your life's worth saving,
 We should start behaving
Like the truth's been told by saviours through our time.
 | 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + | 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + |
Your downfall, you'll bring it on yourselves.
All warnings fall upon deaf ears,
Their scorn compounding my worst fears.
No way out, hopeless souls shout,
 [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]A7[/ch] | [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]A7[/ch] |
Drowning in the tears of the world.

 Where's your love been sleeping?
 Has your heart been weeping
Over all unrighteous action in the world
 | 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + | 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + |
Where bad jazz seems all they're laying down?
No use in turning your blind eye,
You feel the heat as you fry.
Try your best, you'll find no rest,
 [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]A7[/ch] | [ch]Dm[/ch] [ch]Dm/C[/ch] |
Drowning in the tears of the world.

It's a sure bet, each pays his debts,

 Baltimore Oriole
Took a look at that mercury, forty below
 No life for a lady
 [ch]Cm[/ch] [ch]Ab7[/ch] [ch]Gm[/ch] [ch]F[/ch] | [ch]Gm[/ch] [ch]Gm7[/ch] |
To be draggin' her feathers around in the snow

Leaving me blue, off she flew
To the Tangipaho, down in Louisiana
 Where a two, timin' Jaybird
 Met the divine Miss O
I'd like to ruffle his plumage
 That Baltimore Oriole
Messed around with that big guy
 [ch]F[/ch] | [ch]Gm[/ch] [ch]Gm/F[/ch] |
 Till he singed her wings
 Forgivin' is easy
It’s a woman like, now and then
 Could happen to thing

 Send her back home
Home ain't home without her warbling
 How she can sing
Make a lonely man happy, Baltimore Oriole
 | [ch]Gm[/ch] [ch]Gm/F[/ch] | [ch]Eb7[/ch] [ch]D7[/ch] | [ [ch]Gm[/ch] ]
 Come down from that bough

Make a lonely man happy, Baltimore Oriole
