The only tabs I found for this song were "pro" tabs, and I thought it was a pity not to have this less known
but great song on UG. The strumming pattern is like:

ch]E[/ch
I came upon a butcher,
ch]A[/ch
he was slaughtering a lamb,
ch]E[/ch
I accused him there
ch]B7[/ch
with his tortured lamb.
ch]E[/ch
He said "Listen to me, child,
ch]A[/ch
I am what I am
ch]E[/ch] [ch]B7[/ch] [ch]A[/ch
and you, you are my only son."
/ /
ch]E[/ch
Well, I found a silver needle,
ch]A[/ch
I put it into my arm.
ch]E[/ch
It did some good,
ch]B7[/ch
did some harm.
ch]E[/ch
But the nights were cold
ch]A[/ch
and it almost kept me warm,
ch]E[/ch] [ch]B7[/ch] [ch]A[/ch
how come the night is long?
/ /
ch]E[/ch
I saw some flowers growing up
ch]A[/ch
where that lamb fell down;
ch]E[/ch
was I supposed to praise my Lord,
ch]B7[/ch
make some kind of joyful sound?
ch]E[/ch
He said, "Listen, listen to me now,
ch]A[/ch
I go round and round
ch]E[/ch] [ch]B7[/ch] [ch]A[/ch
and you, you are my only child."
/ /
ch]E[/ch
Do not leave me now,
ch]A[/ch
do not leave me now,
ch]E[/ch
I'm broken down
ch]B7[/ch
from a recent fall.
ch]E[/ch
Blood upon my body
ch]A[/ch
and ice upon my soul,
ch]E[/ch] [ch]B7[/ch] [ch]A[/ch
lead on, my son, it is your world.
